Executive Director's Message
Welcome to the official website of the Front for Climate Change (FCC). Our mission at the Front for Climate Change is to lead environmental campaigns and build a local mass movement of communities committed to system change for a just world where people and nature thrive. The mission is rooted in strengthening localized community-centered approaches to addressing the climate crisis. We believe that empowering local communities is key to creating sustainable solutions that contribute meaningfully to the global fight against climate change.
In May 2013, the Rwenzori sub-region experienced one of the most devastating effects of climate change. The major rivers Nyamugasani and Nyamwamba burst their banks, leading to massive landslides and catastrophic floods on the lower slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains. These events were worsened by human activities such as deforestation and unsustainable agricultural practices, which weakened the region’s natural defenses. The once vibrant towns, lush vegetation, majestic mountains, and thriving river valleys underwent a dramatic and heartbreaking transformation.
Against this background the Front for Climate Change was founded to respond to such realities. We focus on restoring degraded ecosystems, promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices and supporting communities to adapt, rebuild and thrive in harmony with nature. We are also committed to protecting vital habitats such as national parks, biodiversity hotspots within the Rwenzori region.Â
Our organisation operates through a structured framework that includes a Board of Directors, a network of Volunteers and a Secretariat led by the Executive Director. Together we are committed to driving meaningful, evidence-based and inclusive action against climate change.
I thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in the Front for Climate Change. I invite you to join us in taking sustainable actions to save the planet for future generations to come.Â
With gratitude and determination.
